Youth Orchestra

The Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra was first organized in 1982 with the primary purpose of establishing an outlet for outstanding instrumental music students. Ettore Chiudioni, Conductor of the MSYO served as Band/Orchestra Director at Malabar High School for 25 years, spent his final year teaching as Orchestra Director at Mansfield Senior High School and is in his 44th year as principal trumpet in the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra.

The MSYO is comprised of over 100 student musicians, primarily from grades 9 through 12, representing Richland, Ashland, Wayne, Marion, Knox, Crawford and Holmes counties. For information on the MSYO program please contact Brandon Smith at 419-522-2726 ext. 211.

In addition to two formal concerts each year, the group also performs four free "Lollipop" concerts in area schools.

About Ettore Chiudioni

Symphony - Youth Orchestra - Ettore ChiudioniMr. Chiudioni is in his eighteenth year as conductor of the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra. He retired in 1989 after thirty-two years as a high school orchestra/band director: six years in the Crestline City Schools and twenty-six years in the Mansfield City Schools. He conducts orchestra and band clinics and workshops throughout the state and has served as an adjudicator for concerto competitions at various schools of music. He continues to serve as an OMEA Adjudicator for State Orchestra, as well as Strings and Brass Solo and Ensemble Events.

Mr. Chiudioni is in his 50th year as principal trumpet with the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra and has appeared as soloist with the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, the Firelands Symphony, the Alliance Symphony, and with area high school orchestras and bands. He serves as principal trumpet with the Renaissance Brass Quintet and the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra's Outreach Brass Trio.

Mr. Chiudioni graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Ohio University where he studied trumpet with William Brophy. He also graduated Cum Laude with a Master of Arts Degree from the Ohio State University. During his four years at Ohio University, he was the featured soloist with the University Bands and was a member of the University Symphony Orchestra and Brass Choir.

Mr. Chiudioni is a private trumpet instructor in Mansfield. Many of his students have been members of the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra, the East-Central Region Orchestra, the OMEA All-State Orchestra and the OMEA All-State Band. Several of his former students are now pursuing careers in music performance and music education. Mr. Chiudioni has served as Secretary-Treasurer of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 159, AFM for over thirty years. He is married to Joan Chiudioni, a violinist with the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra.
