In an era of grandstanding artistry and pop celebrities who change with each new trend, Kathy Mattea has remained grounded in who she is: a folk-based performer and a well-written song’s best friend. There is greatness in how Mattea interprets a song, whether it’s as touching as “Where’ve You Been” and “They Are the Roses” or as rousing as “Come From the Heart” and “Walking Away A Winner”. “Love at the Five and Dime” was Mattea’s first hit in 1986. Since then she has become one of country music’s most distinctive and critically acclaimed artists with two Grammy awards and two CMA Female Vocalist of the Year awards. Her song “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses” was named CMA Single of the Year.
In 2007 and 2008 Kathy Mattea takes on an exciting new project - a stripped down, roots oriented, acoustic approach to music from the coal mining era that fueled the industrial growth of our country over a century ago. While the project is still a work in progress, Kathy went into the studio in January 2007 with award winning musician and renowned country and folk music historian Marty Stuart as producer. The Renaissance is proud to kick off her tour in support of her new CD!
